Who can describe their home better than the current owner?
‘Over the years we have done a lot of work to the house and it is fully adapted but not in a way that looks medicalised and would be suitable for a family. Given the scarcity of accessible accommodation it seems a waste to sell it to someone that doesn’t need the adaptions, and it would make me very happy to help another disabled person.
Downstairs is spacious. There is a double aspect living room, a large open plan kitchen with breakfast bar, recently installed that is fully adapted for me to cook. This includes ovens and microwave at wheelchair height, a raise lower induction hob and a sink with space below for me to wheel into. At the back is a conservatory with underfloor heating, a wood burner and bifold doors to the garden. We tend to leave the bifolds open in the summer and use it as an extension to the garden. We use it as a dining room and second lounge all year round and it has been used as a fourth double bedroom for guests.
First floor comprises three double bedrooms and a large family bathroom (bath, shower sink toilet). I don’t tend to use this but it is big enough to access the bath and turn and exit. The master bedroom has an ensuite wetroom with shower toilet and sink. Drop down shower seat and handles. This I use daily. The bedroom has 800mm door and the rooms are interconnected with a large landing (currently with a cross trainer and free weights for a home gym).
Access to first floor is via a stairlift. This is the third I have had in the 23 years I have lived here. I’m T10 and so can safely use one. I leave my day chair on the ground floor and the landing is large enough to keep a second chair upstairs, so I am fully independent. There is room to put a through floor lift if this was desired or required.’
